UNFPA Sri Lanka together with Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) handed over 392 maternity kits to pregnant mothers in the flood-affected areas in Colombo and Gampaha districts, supporting the Government's flood relief efforts. Responding to a request from the Disaster Management Centre, the kits were distributed to Medical Officers of Health in areas such as Wattala, Ja-ela, Kelaniya, and Kaduwela.

These maternity kits contain essential items to support pregnant mothers, including bed sheets, towels, underwear, maternity bed jackets, breastfeeding bras, chintz cloths, sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, detergent, soap, and slippers. Additionally, the kits also contain baby nets, diapers, baby clothes, mackintosh, and essential hygiene products for newborns.

By offering these comprehensive supplies, UNFPA Sri Lanka aims to ease the significant cost burden for low-income communities, ensuring access to necessary maternal and childbirth items, especially during times of crisis.
