The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sri Lanka together with the Government is pleased to announce the ICPD30 Partnership Evening, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) scheduled to take place on March 1, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Balmoral Hall, Kingsbury.

The ICPD 30 Partnership Evening aims to celebrate the journey of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Sri Lanka and reflect on Sri Lanka’s commitments to the ICPD during UNFPA’s 50-years dedicated presence in the country. It serves as a platform to reflect on the past, acknowledge achievements, and inspire collective action towards shaping a better future for all.

The event will feature a retrospective on Sri Lanka's commitments to the ICPD agenda, highlighting the progress achieved over the past 30 years. Distinguished thought leaders will share insights, and there will be discussions on the significance of partnerships in advancing the goals of the ICPD, particularly in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE).

Key objectives of the Partnership Evening include:

  • Reflecting on the significant milestones and contributions of UNFPA Sri Lanka within the framework of the ICPD
  • Emphasizing the value of partnerships and inspiring collaboration to achieve transformative goals
  • Engaging in renewed obligation to fulfill Sri Lanka’s commitment to the ICPD Programme of Action and showcasing the vision for the future summit

The event will be graced by the presence of Speaker, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Dr. Seetha Arambepola, State Minister of Health, Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe, Pio Smith, the Asia Pacific Regional Director of UNFPA, and Kunle Adeniyi, UNFPA Sri Lanka Representative. 

It will include the unveiling of a special edition of the Sri Lanka Journal of Population Studies and a stamp commemorating the occasion. It will also serve as an opportunity to express gratitude to key stakeholders for their enduring support of UNFPA Sri Lanka.

Media representatives are invited to attend and cover the ICPD 30 Partnership Evening to share insights and stories of progress towards achieving the goals and values of the ICPD.
