PROMISES (Project to Improve Access to Information and services of SRHR and SGBV)

In spite of remarkable health indicators on maternal and child health in the country, the denial of certain social realities related to SRHR information and services have caused women and young people in higher reproductive age groups to not access information and services that they need the most. Addressing and debunking myths and misconceptions around SRHR is key for achieving lasting peace in any community. Therefore, it is very clear that eliminating the spreading of inaccurate and harmful messaging will not be possible without the realization of SRHR of young people, particularly girls.

Project Goal

Contributing to reconciliation and sustained peace in line with UNSCR 1325 and 2250 through, increased access to justice, choice, and well-being of women and young people in Sri Lanka.

Specific Objective: By 2022, women and young people will have improved access to SRHR information and services and be able to counter myths and prejudices that perpetuate communal violence.

Expected Results

Result 1 — Family planning rebranded and repackaged to encompass a human rights-based approach.
Result 2 — Youth-friendly health centers and FP programmes are better resourced and equipped to address young people's and women's (specifically those in the higher reproductive age groups) right to access information, education, and health services.
Result 3 — The capacity of existing shelters for SGBV survivors are strengthened both in terms of infrastructure and comprehensive service provision.
