Sri Lanka is unique among the other South-East Asian countries as it is the only country that offers universal healthcare and education free of charge to the public. As a result, currently, Sri Lanka is experiencing a low level of HIV epidemic with a
prevalence rate of less than 0.1% in the general population,as well as in the key population groups.

The world has committed to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with support of all global partners. Ending the AIDS epidemic will not be possible without greatly increased efforts to reduce new infections and prevent AIDS - related deaths among key populations at highest risk of HIV acquisition and transmission. This issue focuses on 6 such populations. ie;sex workers, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men, transgender
individuals, beach boys and prisoners.
