UNFPA with the Disaster Manager Center conducted a series of training across Sri Lanka to strengthen the response of DMC, Women Development and Counselling Officers, Midwives and PHIs during natural disasters towards women and girls and the risks they face. The target group for this training were Response Staff: DMC officers, Women Development Officers, Counselling officers, Officials from the health sector(Midwives, PHI)
The objectives of the sessions were: 1. To understand the key concepts and definitions of gender and sexual and gender based violence in disasters; 2. To understand the causes and consequences of GBV in Sri Lanka; 3. To understand and mitigate risks to minimize and /or prevent vulnerabilities among communities exposed to disasters; 4. To understand the role of responders  at the district and divisional level.
