UNFPA, together with the Menopause Society of Sri Lanka hosted a collaborative symposium at the Annual Academic Sessions of the Menopause Society of Sri Lanka (MENOSOC 2023) on ‘Dilemmas of midlife fertility’.
The Menopause Society of Sri Lanka hosted the Annual Academic Sessions on 23rd July 2023 together with pre/post congress workshops. The conference programme included diverse areas of peri and post reproductive health in Sri Lanka and South Asia.
This symposium on ‘Dilemmas of midlife fertility’ facilitated discussion around the topic of midlife fertility and re-orienting approaches through educating healthcare workers, policy planners and thereby the general population so that safety of pregnancies in advanced maternal age is ensured, while advocating the use of contraceptive practices to prevent unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions and offering the best possible fertility practices to the midlife women. The symposium also aimed to keep abreast of current trends, global best practices and innovative approaches in the management of midlife fertility, to identify specific challenges to Sri Lanka and common challenges to the South Asian region
and also expected to develop specific recommendations.
