In our efforts to enhance the delivery of protection services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a comprehensive five-day Training of Trainers on Case Management was held from 10th to 14th of June in Colombo. This training was conducted for Women Development Officers, Probation Officers, Child Rights Promotion Officers, and Counselling Officers. Divisional-level officers from the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Batticaloa attended the session. UNFPA Sri Lanka, supported this initiative in collaboration with Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Building on the foundation laid by the previous training phase, which introduced 1,000 protection officers to case management, this second phase focused on expanding their knowledge and skills in terms of service deliver. Over the course of five days, participants delved into crucial topics including key concepts and attitudes related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), survivor-centered approaches, effective and empathetic communication, and specialized responses for survivors of GBV including women, adolescent girls, and persons with disabilities.
The training also emphasized the importance of being sensitive to the needs of survivors and fostering a conducive environment where they can seek support. The need to conduct thorough assessments, whilst maintaining confidentiality, was another key factor that was highlighted during the training.
With the successful completion of this training, UNFPA Sri Lanka, along with our donors and key stakeholders, remains committed to strengthening protection services across the country. This commitment ensures that GBV survivors can feel reassured and seek assistance from authorities in times of distress.
