The Seventh Asian and Pacific Population Conference was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Asia and the Pacific.It was held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok and online from 15 to 17 November 2023.  

The Conference provided an opportunity to review the implementation of the Asian and Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Population and Development and the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development in the region. It focused on intersecting population and development considerations as they related to sustainable development, both now and in the future. 

At the 7th Asia Pacific Population Conference, Sri Lanka shared progress made and renewed her commitment to implement the ICPD POA and the Nairobi pledge. Sri Lanka’s Director General of Health Service, Dr. Asela Gunawardhana shared Sri Lanka’s experience in reducing maternal mortality, a best practice not only for South Asia, but for the whole world. He also called for cross border partnerships in addressing maternal mortality in the region.
