The economic crisis has put immense pressure on various aspects of the country and the healthcare system is no exception. Health workers are at the forefront of the response, working long hours under difficult circumstances, which can take a toll on their mental health and wellbeing. Providing psychosocial support to health workers is essential to maintain their mental wellbeing, resilience, and adaptability to care during emergencies.

UNFPA SriLanka conducted a session for the National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) to support their wellbeing, resilience and self-care practices.

The primary objective of this activity is to improve the mental wellbeing of primary health workers in both the preventive and curative sectors, enabling them to cope better with the challenges of providing healthcare during emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis.

Outcomes

  1. Improved mental wellbeing of health workers, leading to better job satisfaction and retention rates.
  2. Increased resilience and adaptability of health workers in providing care during the emergencies.
  3. Increased awareness and importance of psychosocial support among health workers, leading to better self-care practices.
