UNFPA Sri Lanka held a consultation on the Voluntary National Survey for the International Conference on Population & Development. UNESCAP in cooperation with the UNFPA is convening the 7th Asian and Pacific Population Conference this November which will be informed by this Voluntary National Survey.

The survey is to monitor the progress in Asia and the Pacific towards the implementation of the International Conference on Population and Development Plan of Action and the commitments made in the 2013 Asian and Pacific Ministerial Declaration. The ICPD Programme of Action transformed the way in which the linkages between population, poverty reduction and sustainable development were addressed – by putting the rights, needs and aspirations of individual human beings at the centre of sustainable development. It collects data to understand the progress and achievements in all priority action areas and also to identify key challenges and lessons learned. This process is pivotal in ensuring progress towards the commitments and also contributes to the prevention of the reversal of gains made in the health and protection sectors.

UNFPA as the Sexual and reproductive health agency of the UN is happy to support this process working closely with all respective ministries and with CSOs. Women, girls and young people are core in our mandate and our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every child birth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
