Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Lalita Kapur visited the Women's Development Center (WDC) in Kandy which provides a safe and secure environment for survivors of violence. The center provides equal opportunities for at-risk and vulnerable women, youth, and children.
UNFPA and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) support programmes to address violence against women and girls for sustainable development.
WDC’s mission and overall goal is to be a socially accountable and sustainable mediator. By intervening through creative, innovative and effective change initiatives WDC strives to encourage self-reliance and provide equal opportunities for at risk and vulnerable women, youth, and children.
WDC advocates on a rights based ‘bottom-up’ approach partnering with a gender sensitive and professional team of activists. WDC’s vision is to be a leading role model creating a dignified society serving the socially challenged women and children of Sri Lanka.
