On 23 July 2025, UNFPA, together with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, launched the National Campaign to Address Sexual Harassment in Public Transport and Public Spaces at Suhurupaya, Battaramulla.

Sexual harassment in public transport (SHPT) has long been a pervasive issue in Sri Lanka, disproportionately affecting women and girls, and limiting their freedom of movement, access to essential services, employment, and education. The campaign aimed to promote a safer, more gender-sensitive public transport system while ensuring that all public spaces are free from harassment, reinforcing the collective responsibility to protect dignity, equality, and safety for all.
