Compendium on Law, Gender-based Violence and Reproductive Rights
This Compendium on law, Gender Based Violence and Reproductive Rights seeks to put together the sources and provide information on the Constitutional Provisions, legislation, regulations, jurisprudence (major cases) that apply in this important area of public concern. It also introduces the aspects of International law and policy that should guide and influence responses to gender based violence and reproductive rights. The Compendium clarifies the main principles on criminal and civil procedures applicable in litigation in the courts, and has a section on mechanisms for human rights protection. A separate section on gaps in law, policy and procedures and recommendations for a holistic response has been included.
Zero Stigma and Discrimination by 2020: Stigma Assessment of People Living with HIV in Sri Lanka - 2017
Sri Lanka is experiencing a low level of HIV epidemic, with a prevalence of less than 5% in any defined key affected population, and less than 1% of the general population. Stigma and discrimination are among the foremost barriers to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. This undermines HIV prevention efforts by making people afraid to seek HIV information, services and modalities to reduce their risk of infection and to adopt safer behaviours. The second Stigma assessment of people living with HIV in Sri Lanka – 2017 was carried out to assess the stigma among people living with HIV in Sri Lanka.
Protecting Women & Girls in Emergency Situations
Sri Lanka has faced severe drought, floods, and landslides in recent years, which have left thousands of women and girls vulernable, during and after emergency situations. In the wake of these disasters, families are left homeless, affecting their security, privacy and hygiene.
In crisis situations, one in five women of childbearing age is likely to be pregnant. Without access to reproductive health services, these women face an increased risk of life-threatening complications. UNFPA works closely with the government and local partners to ensure that reproductive health is integrated into emergency response.

In Sri Lanka, while women constitute 52 percent of Sri Lanka's population, female representation in parliament is only 5.3 percent. Due to gender-based socio-cultural norms and biases, it is understood that there are barriers to entry and engagement for women to contribute actively in politics in Sri Lanka. Violence against women in elections is regarded as a major deterrent to women’s political participation as electoral and political leaders.
Population Ageing in Sri Lanka & its Policy Implications (G2G-4)
Understanding the need to focus on the demographic shift in age, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) jointly published a Thematic Report on ‘Ageing Population of Sri Lanka: Emerging Issues, Needs, and Policy Implications’. The report was authored by Dr. Sunethra Perera, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Demography at the University of Colombo
The fourth G2G Dialogue was based on this Thematic Report, and was held on 6 October 2017, coinciding with the International Day for Older Persons.

Ageing Population in Sri Lanka
This thematic report on the ageing population of Sri Lanka is part of a series of reports that the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, has produced in partnership with the Department of Census and Statistics. These reports are based on the 2012 Census on Population and Housing and provide comprehensive analyses on important aspects of Sri Lanka’s population dynamics.
Population projections show that the proportion of Sri Lankans above the age of 60 years will increase from 14% in 2017 to 22% by the year 2037. With such a rapidly ageing population in Sri Lanka, it is imperative for policy makers to ensure that social and economic institutions in the county are ready to face the challenges ahead.
